Covering the greatest wall space in the Tower, Labaudt's two busy sides of Powell Street in 1934 flow up each side of the curved stairway, with a connecting stretch over the doorway below. Beginning at Market Street at the bottom of the stairs, these scenes show crowds, buildings, and activities typical of the urban expanse. Labaudt wanted this sweeping view because he had a design studio on Powell Street. |
